Jesus
Although there are many people who have died and gone to heaven, Jesus is the only person in history who ascended to heaven without dying. This proves that Jesus is the Son of God and that he has the power to overcome death.
His life
Jesus was a first-century Jewish teacher and preacher who is the central figure of Christianity. Christians believe he is the Son of God and the savior of humanity. His life and teachings are recounted in the Bible’s New Testament.
Jesus was born circa 4 BCE in Bethlehem. Little is known about his childhood, but his life began to publically unfold around the age of 30 when he was baptized by John the Baptist. After spending several years teaching and performing miracles in Galilee, Jesus returned to Judea where he caused great controversy by claiming to be the Messiah—the King of the Jews.
Jewish leaders eventually had Jesus arrested and brought to trial. He was found guilty of sedition and sentenced to death by crucifixion. Jesus died circa 30 CE, on a cross outside Jerusalem. His death is thought to have given birth to Christianity—one of the world’s major religions
His teachings
Jesus preached about God’s kingdom coming soon, and he called people to turn from their sin and be baptized to show that they were changing their ways. Many people believed him, including some of the Jewish religious leaders. But other religious leaders didn’t agree with him. They thought he was confusing the people with his talk about God’s kingdom.
One day, some men brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery to Jesus. They asked him what should be done with her, trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him. But Jesus cleverly turned the tables on them. He said, “Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to cast a stone at her.” One by one, they all walked away, until only Jesus and the woman were left. Then Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and do not sin again” (John 8:1-11).
Jesus also practiced what he preached. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and helped those in need. He even raised a few people from the dead! crowds of people followed him wherever he went, because they had never seen anything like it before.
His miracles
There is no doubt that Jesus Christ was a miracle worker. He performed countless miracles during his time on earth, from healing the sick to feeding the masses. His miracles were a sign of his divinity and his power over nature.
One of the most well-known miracles of Jesus is the story of his resurrection. This miracle proves that Jesus has power over death itself, and it is this miracle that provides hope for Christians who believe in life after death.
Another popular miracle story is that of the feeding of the five thousand. In this story, Jesus feeds a huge crowd with only five loaves of bread and two fish. This miracle demonstrates Jesus’ power to provide for his people, even in their time of need.
Whether you believe in miracles or not, there is no denying that Jesus Christ was an extraordinary man with a message that continues to resonate with people today.
His crucifixion
crucifixion was most likely invented by the Persians or Carthaginians. It was then adopted by the Romans who used it as a punishment for criminals and slaves. crucifixion involved nailing or binding the victim’s hands and feet to a wooden cross and leaving them to hang there until they died.
The events leading up to it
In the days leading up to his crucifixion, Jesus was betrayed by one of his closest friends, arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. He was then forced to carry his own cross through the streets of Jerusalem before being crucified at a place called Golgotha.
The actual crucifixion
The word “excruciating” comes from the Latin crux, or cross. It’s appropriate that we should use a Latin word to describe the events of Good Friday, because it was the Roman method of crucifixion that was used to kill Jesus Christ.
The Romans reserved crucifixion for non-citizens as a way to humiliate and degrade them. It was considered such a shameful and disgraceful death that even the Romans would not allow their own citizens to be crucified.
Roman soldiers would often nail a victim’s hands and feet to a large wooden cross, which was then raised up and left in place for the victim to die. The process could take days, as the person slowly died of thirst, hunger, and exposure.
The Bible records that Jesus was crucified between two thieves (Matthew 27:38), but it doesn’t give many details about His actual crucifixion. We know that He was tortured before His crucifixion (Matthew 27:26), and that He carried His own cross to the place of execution (John 19:17).
We also know that Jesus died on the cross (Matthew 27:50), and that after His death, His body was taken down from the cross and buried in a tomb (Luke 23:53).
His resurrection
It is widely accepted by historians that Jesus was crucified by the Romans. However, there is debate over what happened after his crucifixion. Some people believe that Jesus died and was resurrected three days later, while others believe that he ascended to heaven without dying.
There is no clear evidence for either of these theories, but the most popular view amongst Christians is that Jesus was resurrected. This view is based on the fact that several of Jesus’ followers claimed to have seen him alive after his crucifixion.
His ascension
Jesus ascended to heaven without dying. This event is known as the “Ascension.” It is an important event in Christianity.
What happened
On the morning of his ascension, Jesus appeared to his disciples and gave them some final instructions. He told them that he would be going to heaven but that they would be staying on earth. He said that he would be sending them the Holy Spirit, who would guide and comfort them. Jesus also told his disciples to go out into the world and spread the Good News. After Jesus said goodbye to his disciples, he was taken up into heaven.
What it means
When Jesus ascended into heaven, he took his rightful place as King of kings and Lord of lords. His ascension marked the culmination of his earthly ministry and the beginning of his heavenly reign.
Jesus’ ascension is significant for several reasons. First, it demonstrates his power over death and sin. By rising from the dead and ascending into heaven, Jesus conquered death and destroyed the power of sin. Second, Jesus’ ascension is a preview of our own future. When we trust in Jesus, we are promised eternal life with him in heaven. Third, the ascension reminds us that Jesus is sovereign over all creation. He is not just some powerless figure in heaven; he is the ruler of the universe! Finally, the ascension assures us that Jesus is interceding for us right now at the Father’s right hand. We can confidently approach God because we know that Jesus is pleading our case before him.
The ascension is a cause for celebration! It means that we have hope in this life and the next. It means that our sins are forgiven and we have eternal life with God. It means that Jesus is in control and he is interceding for us even now. What a great day it will be when we see him face to face!
