We need to guard our hearts and minds against all evil (Philippians 4:8) because the Lord sees what we think as well as what we do (Psalm 139:2–4).
God also hates a hard heart—a heart that refuses to repent of sin or believe in Him (Luke 16:15; Acts 7:51; Ephesians 4:18–19). A hard heart will not respond to the convicting work of the Holy Spirit or heed the warnings of Scripture; instead, it grows harder and more resistant with each passing day until it becomes calloused and unresponsive altogether. A hard heart will not receive salvation because it cannot repent; it has become spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1–5).
