When Nebuchadnezzar had an enormous statue of himself erected in the plain of Dura, all the officials of his empire were summoned to the dedication ceremony. The90-foot high gold statue was an impressive sight, and the music was loud and celebratory. As the people looked on, Nebuchadnezzar gave a speech declaring that everyone must bow down and worship the statue when they hear the music play. Anyone who refused would be thrown into a blazing furnace.
