Romans 6 explained

God’s wrath and our sin

Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” So, what does this verse mean? Essentially, this verse is saying that our sin leads to death, but God’s gift of eternal life through Christ Jesus cancels out that death sentence.

God’s wrath is just

Many people shy away from the topic of God’s wrath, but it is an important aspect of who He is. The Bible is clear that God is a righteous and just God, and His wrath is a natural expression of that. The good news is that through Jesus Christ, we can be reconciled to God and experience His love and grace instead of His wrath.

Too often, we think of God’s wrath as something arbitrary or random, but it is actually a very specific response to our sin. It is the natural consequence of our rebellion against Him. But because of His great love for us, He has provided a way for us to escape His wrath through His Son, Jesus Christ.

When we put our faith in Christ, His righteousness is credited to us and we are forgiven of our sin. This doesn’t mean that we will never experience any consequences for our sin – there may be natural consequences that we experience even after we are forgiven – but it does mean that we will not have to face the eternal punishment of Hell.

If you are struggling with the idea of God’s wrath, I encourage you to seek out some resources that can help you understand it better. There are many good books and articles out there on the topic. And most importantly, if you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to talk to your pastor or another trusted Christian friend or counselor.

Our sin is great

God’s wrath is a holy and just reaction to our sin. It is his response to our rebellion against him and our rejection of his love. Our sin is great, and his wrath is greater. But his wrath is alsoHis righteousness being displayed in judgement against our evil.

God’s love and our salvation

Romans 6:23 tells us that “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This means that because of our sin, we deserve death. However, because of God’s love, He has given us eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ.

God’s love is great

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Our salvation is certain

God’s love for us is certain, and because of that our salvation is certain as well. Romans 6:23 tells us that “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This means that because we have sinned, we deserve death. But because of God’s love for us, he gives us eternal life instead. This is a free gift that we can never earn. It is only given to us by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.

Application

As Christians, we are called to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind (Luke 10:27). We are also called to love our neighbor as ourselves (Mark 12:31). One way we can love God is by reading and studying His Word. The Bible is full of instructions on how we are to live our lives. It is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105).

We should fear God

The scriptures tell us that we should fear God, and for good reason. God is holy and just, and he will judge us according to our deeds. If we fear him, we will live in accordance with his will and avoid doing things that would displease him. Additionally, when we keep his commandments, we show our love for him.

We should trust in God’s love

Psalm 62:8 says, “Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children.” In other words, we should trust in God’s love for us and not be afraid to pour out our hearts to him.
