How to know if God is speaking to you
There are certain things that you can pay attention to that will help you know if it is God who is speaking to you. One way to know is by the peace that you feel. When God speaks to you, you will feel a sense of peace about it. Another way to know is by the way the message makes you feel.
through the Bible
When you study the Bible, you will find that God speaks to us in many ways. He speaks to us through His Word, the Bible. He speaks to us through prayer. He speaks to us through our conscience. He speaks to us through other people. And He speaks to us through circumstances.
If you want to know if God is speaking to you, the best way is to study His Word, the Bible. As you study and meditate on Scripture, God will reveal Himself to you and speak to you through His Word. Additionally, as you spend time in prayer, God will speak to you and lead you in your prayer life. Additionally, as you listen to your conscience and the prompting of the Holy Spirit, God will guide and direct your steps. Finally, as you listen to the counsel of other people who are walking with God, you will gain wisdom and insight into how God is speaking to you.
through a burning bush
While most of us think that hearing God’s voice would be an auditory experience, the truth is that God speaks to us in many different ways. For example, He may speak to us through our thoughts, through other people, or even through nature.
One of the most famous examples of God speaking to someone is when He spoke to Moses through a burning bush. In Exodus 3:1-4, we read:
“Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock behind the desert place and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why doesn’t the bush burn up?”
When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”
This event changed Moses’ life forever because it led him to become one of the greatest leaders in history. If you want to know if God is speaking to you, look for clues in your daily life that might indicate His presence.
through a donkey
It is possible that God speaks to you through a donkey. If you are waiting for a sign from God and you see a donkey, it is possible that this is the sign you have been waiting for. Donkeys are often associated with peace and relaxation, so if you feel peace and relaxation when you see a donkey, it is possible that this is a sign from God.
How to know if you are speaking to God
When you feel the presence of God, you will feel a sense of calm and peace. You may feel a warmth in your heart or a tingling sensation in your body. These are just some of the ways that God may communicate with you.
through prayer
God knows our heart and is always present, so we can speak to Him anytime, anywhere. Whether we’re facing good or bad times, we can talk to Him about our joys and our struggles. When we do, we open the door for Him to guide us, provide for us, and comfort us.
through fasting
The best way to know if you are speaking to God is through fasting. Fasting is a time when you go without food or water for a period of time. This allows you to clear your mind and focus on God. When you are fasting, you can pray and ask God to speak to you. You can also read the Bible and listen for God’s voice. If you are unsure if what you are hearing is from God, you can ask other people who are close to God for their opinion.
through study
To be able to discern if you are hearing from God, you need to know His voice. This is only possible through an intimate relationship with Him, which comes from studying His Word and spending time with Him in prayer. When you know God, you will be able to recognize His voice when He speaks to you. Here are some things to look for that will help you discern if you are hearing from God:
The Bible says that God’s Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). This means that when we are walking in the dark, God’s Word will show us the way. So, if what you are hearing goes against what the Bible says, it is not from God.
God’s Word is also living and active (Hebrews 4:12). This means that it has the power to change us and transform our lives. So, if what you are hearing is causing you to grow in your relationship with God and become more like Christ, it is likely from Him.
Another way to tell if you are hearing from God is by the fruit it produces in your life. The Bible says that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). If what you are hearing is leading you to exhibit these qualities more and more, it is probably from God.
Finally, one of the most surefire ways to know if you are hearing from God is by peace. The Bible says that “the peace of God…will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). So if what you are hearing brings peace into your life instead of anxiety or fear, it is likely a message from God.
