How many days did Noah stay in the ark?
Noah and his family were in the ark for a total of 371 days. They entered the ark on Day 1 of the flood, which began on the 17th day of the 2nd month of that year. The floodwaters receded on the 27th day of the 2nd month of the following year, and Noah and his family left the ark on that day.
Noah’s ark
The flood
Noah’s ark is a story from the Bible’s Book of Genesis. Noah was a man who lived in the time of the great flood. God told Noah to build an ark and to put two of every kind of animal on it. Noah did as he was told. For 40 days and 40 nights it rained and the waters rose. The ark floated on the water. All the animals were safe inside. After the waters had gone down, Noah and his family left the ark.
The ark
Noah’s ark was a large vessel built by Noah at God’s command to save himself, his family, and representatives of all the world’s animals from the Flood. The story of Noah and the ark is told in the Bible’s book of Genesis.
Noah was instructed by God to build the ark out of gopher wood, and to seal it with pitch inside and out. The ark was to be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high (approximately 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high). It was divided into three floors, with a window and door on each side.
The ark had several purposes:
- To provide a safe haven for Noah, his family, and the animals during the Flood
- To preserve examples of all the world’s animals so that they could continue to exist after the Flood
- To serve as a sign of God’s covenant with Noah and all living things
Noah was 600 years old when he began building the ark, and he spent 100 years working on it. The Bible does not say how many days he spent on the ark itself, but we know that he was on board for at least 371 days (Genesis 7:11-8:14).
Noah’s family
Noah is a very important figure in the Bible and is known for his role in the flood. Noah’s family was very large, and he had to take care of them all. He built the Ark to keep them safe, and it took him a long time.
Noah’s wife
Noah’s wife is not named in the Bible. She is only mentioned in Genesis 7:7 as one of the seven members of Noah’s family who entered the ark. Biblical scholars believe that the author of Genesis may have deliberately left her unnamed to avoid creating a hero worship around her.
Noah’s sons
Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. Noah’s wife was also on the Ark, but her name is not given in the Bible.
The Bible does not give a specific number of days that Noah and his family were on the Ark, but it does say that they were on the Ark for a total of 370 days.
Noah’s daughters-in-law
Noah’s daughters-in-law were on the ark with Noah and his wife for the entire journey. We don’t know their names, but Scripture does tell us that they were married to Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth. Since it was Noah’s sons who would continue the human race after the flood, it was essential that their wives be on the ark so that they could have children and repopulate the earth.
