SEO Basics
Optimizing your website for the search engines can be a complex and time-consuming task, but it is important to ensure that your site is visible to potential customers. There are a number of methods to improve your site’s ranking, but one of the most important is to choose the right keywords. Keywords are the terms that people enter into the search engine when they are looking for a particular product or service.
Set up GSC and Bing Webmaster tools
Setting up Google Search Console (GSC) and Bing Webmaster tools is essential for any website that wants to rank in search engines. These platforms provide valuable insights into how your website is performing in search, and can help you identify and fix any issues that are holding you back.
To set up GSC, simply go to google.com/webmasters and sign in with your Google account. Once you’re signed in, you can add your website and verify ownership. To set up BWT, go to bing.com/toolbox/webmaster and sign in with your Microsoft account. Again, once you’re signed in, you can add your website and verify ownership.
Both GSC and BWT require you to verify ownership of your website before they’ll start providing data. There are a few different ways to do this, but the easiest is usually to add a meta tag to your site’s home page. Once you’ve added the tag, save the page and then go back to GSC or BWT and click the “Verify” button. If everything was entered correctly, your website should be verified within a few minutes.
Once your website is verified, you’ll be able to see a wealth of data about how it’s performing in search engines. This data can be invaluable in helping you identify and fix any issues that are holding you back from ranking higher.
Set up Google Analytics
To track your website traffic, you need to set up Google Analytics. This is a free service from Google that gives you insights about your website visitors. To set it up, you need to sign up for a Google Analytics account and add a small piece of code to your website.
Install and configure an SEO plugin (wordpress)
- Download and install the WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin.
- Go to SEO -> General -> Features, and enable the features you want to use.
- Go to SEO -> General ->Webmaster Tools, and enter your Google and Bing verification codes.
- Go to SEO -> Titles & Metas -> Homepage, and edit your title and meta tags for your home page.
- Save your changes.
- Repeat steps 4-5 for each of the other pages on your site (pages, posts, etc.).
- To configure your XML sitemap settings, go to SEO -> XML Sitemaps, and select which post types you want included in your sitemap.
- Save your changes, and then click on the XML Sitemap link at the bottom of the page to check that your sitemap is working properly.
Keyword Research
To be a successful blogger, you must first understand the importance of keyword research. Keyword research is the process of finding and selecting the right keywords to target for your blog post or article. If you don’t do keyword research, you will not be able to rank your content in the search engines.
Identify your competitors
When you’re conducting keyword research, one of the first things you’ll want to do is identify your competitors. This can be tricky, especially if you’re in a niche market, but there are a few different ways you can go about it.
One way is to simply Google your target keywords and see who comes up. If you’re in a competitive market, there’s a good chance that your competitors will be ranking for the same keywords as you. Another way to find them is to look at industry directories or trade associations. If you know who your competitors are, you can then start to research their keywords.
Conduct a keyword gap analysis
In order to compare the relative popularity of different Christian movies currently in theaters, you can conduct a keyword gap analysis. This involves comparing the number of searches conducted for each movie over a given period of time.
To do this, simply enter the movie titles into a search engine and note the number of results that are returned. The movie with the highest number of results is the most popular.
You can also use keyword research tools such as Google AdWords Keyword Planner and Google Trends to compare the relative popularity of different Christian movies currently in theaters.
Find your main ‘money’ keywords
Your main keywords should be included in your domain name, title tags, meta descriptions, H1 headings and in the body of your content. They should also be used in your image alt tags and anywhere else where you can include keywords without compromising the quality of your content.
When choosing your main keywords, you should focus on finding ones that have a high search volume but relatively low competition. You can use a tool like Google Keyword Planner to find keyword ideas and check their search volume and competition.
Technical SEO
I am not a big fan of Christian movies, but my wife is. She loves them and we see them often. She loves the message and the feel of them. I must admit,I have grown to appreciate them myself. We went to see “I Can Only Imagine” last weekend. It was a great movie!
Leverage “Inspect URL” feature in GSC
The “Inspect URL” feature in Google Search Console (GSC) is a powerful tool that can help you troubleshoot and fix a variety of errors on your website. This guide will show you how to use this feature to its fullest potential.
When you enter a URL into the “Inspect URL” field, GSC will crawl the page and return any errors that it finds. This information can be invaluable in identifying and fixing issues on your site.
One of the most common errors that you’ll see in the “Inspect URL” results is the “404 error.” This error indicates that the page you are trying to reach does not exist. If you see this error, you’ll need to either create a new page or redirect the old page to a new one.
Another common error is the “500 error.” This error indicates that there is an issue with the server that is hosting your website. If you see this error, you’ll need to contact your host and ask them to investigate the issue.
Once you’ve fixed all of the errors on your website, you can re-crawl your site using the “Inspect URL” feature and confirm that all of the issues have been resolved.
Ensure your website is mobile-friendly
Mobile devices are used more and more often to access the internet. In some cases, they are even used more often than desktop computers. This trend is only going to continue and grow. As a result, it’s important to make sure your website is designed and built to be mobile-friendly.
There are a few different ways to make a website mobile-friendly. One way is to use a responsive design. This type of design automatically adjusts the layout of your website based on the size of the screen it’s being viewed on. Another way is to create a separate mobile version of your website that can be accessed from a mobile device.
Mobile-friendly websites are important for a couple reasons. First, they provide a better experience for users who are trying to access your website from a mobile device. Second, Google has stated that they will be giving preference in search results to websites that are mobile-friendly.
If you’re not sure if your website is mobile-friendly, you can use Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test tool. This tool will analyze your website and tell you if it is mobile-friendly or not.
Check your site’s loading speed
Your site’s loading speed is important for a few reasons. For one, a slow loading site can negatively impact your user experience. Users are likely to leave a site that takes too long to load, and they may not come back. In addition, web crawlers may penalize your site if it takes too long to load. This can hurt your ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs).
There are a few ways to check your site’s loading speed. One is to use Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool. This tool will give you a report on how fast your site loads on mobile devices and desktop devices. It will also give you insights into what could be slowing down your site and suggestions on how to improve its speed.
Another way to check your site’s loading speed is to use a web hosting company that offers this service. For example, SiteGround offers a free website speed test that will show you how fast your site loads on their servers. This can be helpful in identifying potential issues with your hosting company that could be causing slow loading speeds.
Finally, you can also use Pingdom’s WebsiteSpeed Test tool to check your site’s loading speed from multiple locations around the world. This can be helpful in identifying issues with CDNs or other resources that are being loaded from different parts of the world.
On-page and Content
It is estimated that over two-thirds of the world’s population identifies as Christian, making Christianity the largest religion in the world. And while the number of Christians in the United States continues to grow, the number of Americans who identify as Christian has been declining in recent years.
Fix duplicate, missing, and truncated title tags
Your title tags are important for two reasons: they help search engines understand what your page is about, and they also appear as the clickable headline in the search results.
Unfortunately, some common title tag problems can prevent your pages from ranking well, or from appearing in the search results at all. In this article, we’ll discuss three of the most common title tag problems and how to fix them.
- Duplicate title tags
One of the most common title tag problems is having multiple pages with the same or similar title tags. This can happen for a number of reasons, but it’s usually due to poor organization of your website’s content.
If you have duplicate title tags on your site, it’s important to fix them as soon as possible. Not only will this help your pages rank better, but it will also prevent confusion for users who are trying to find specific information on your site.
To fix duplicate title tags, you’ll need to first identify which pages have the same or similar titles. Once you’ve found these pages, you’ll need to decide which one should keep the original title tag and which ones should be changed. If you’re unsure which page should keep the original title tag, you can use a tool like Google Webmaster Tools to help you make a decision.
Once you’ve decided which page should keep the original title tag, you’ll need to update the other pages accordingly. This usually means either changing the titles of the other pages or redirecting them to the page with the correct title tag. For more information on how to do this, see our article on redirects.
- Missing title tags
Another common problem is missing title tags altogether. This is usually due to one of two things: either the page was never given a title tag in the first place, or the title tag was removed at some point during development and never replaced. Regardless of how it happened, missing title tags can be a serious problem for your site.
Not only do missingtitle tags make it difficult for search engines to understand what your pages are about, but they can also lead users astray if they show up in the search results without a clickable headline. This can cause users to bounce from your site immediately after arriving, which is bad for both your rankings and your bounce rate.
To fix missingtitle tags, you’ll need to add a relevant and keyword-richtitle tag to each page on your site that doesn’t already have one. If you’re not sure how to do this, consult your content management system’s documentation or contact your web developer for help.
- Truncatedtitle tags A truncatedtitle tag occurs when a longertitle tag is cut off due to length restrictions imposed by search engines or web browsers . ccontinued
Find and fix duplicate or missing meta descriptions
If you want your website to rank well in search engine results pages (SERPs), you need to make sure that each of your web pages has a unique, relevant, and keyword-rich meta description.
A meta description is a short snippet of text that appears under your page title in SERPs. It should give searchers a good idea of what your page is about, and persuade them to click through to your website.
Unfortunately, many websites have either duplicate or missing meta descriptions. This can hurt your click-through rate (CTR) and potentially damage your SEO.
In this article, we’ll show you how to find and fix duplicate or missing meta descriptions on your website.
Find and fix multiple H1 tags
Headings are important for usability and SEO, and they should be used to structure the content on your pages. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to find web pages with more than one H1 tag. This can be a problem for two reasons:
- It can make your content look messy and unstructured.
- It can confuse search engines, which may not know which H1 tag to give priority to.
If you find that your pages have more than one H1 tag, there are a few ways you can fix the problem:
- Combine the content from the multiple H1 tags into a single H1 tag.
- Use CSS to style other elements (e.g. h2, h3) to look like H1 tags.
- Move the content from the multiple H1 tags into other elements (e.g. h2, h3).
Off-Page SEO
Off-page SEO (also called “off-site SEO”) refers to actions taken outside of your own website to impact your rankings within search engine result pages (SERPs).
Analyze your competitor’s link profile
You can learn a lot about your SEO competition by analyzing their link profiles. A link profile is basically a collection of all the links pointing to a website. By looking at your competitor’s link profile, you can get insights into the type of links they are getting, where their links are coming from, and what kind of SEO tactics they may be using.
There are a few different ways to analyze a link profile. One way is to use a tool like Majestic SEO or ahrefs. These tools will give you detailed information about the links pointing to a website, including the anchor text, the PageRank of the linking page, and other information.
Another way to analyze a link profile is to manually look at the links pointing to a website. This can be done by looking at the source code of the linking pages or by using a tool like Google Webmaster Tools. Google Webmaster Tools will show you which pages on your site are receiving the most links.
Once you have looked at your competitor’s link profile, you should have a good idea of what kind of SEO tactics they are using and what kinds of links they are getting. You can then use this information to improve your own SEO efforts.
Conduct a link intersect analysis
As you analyze your competitor’s backlinks, it’s important to use a variety of link intersect methods to discover the most valuable link opportunities. Here are a few of our favorites:
-Common Domain Intersect: Find common domains linking to multiple competitors. Then create content on your site that would be appealing to those linking domains and pitch them for a link.
-Competitor Link Intersect: Find the pages on your competitor’s site with the most links and create similar content on your site. Then reach out to the sites linking to your competitor’s page and pitch them for a link.
-Combined Link Intersect: Use a tool like LinkResearchTools’ Competitive Landscape Analyzer to find where your competitors are getting their links from. Then create similar content on your site and pitch those same sites for links.
Target your competitors’ broken backlinks
Gather a list of your top 20-25 competitors.
For each competitor, check their backlinks using a tool like Majestic, Moz, or ahrefs.
For each competitor, check if any of their backlinks are broken. You can do this using a tool like ahrefs or semrush.
If they have any broken backlinks, reach out to the website that is linking to them and ask if they would be willing to link to you instead.
